Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. The Portuguese winery Quinta do Vale Meão is owned by the Olazabal family, who took control of it in 1998. The estate was initially part of AA Ferreira S.A., having been acquired in 1877 by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira. Today, the winery, which is based in the upper Douro Valley, produces high-quality wines with grapes coming from its own vineyards, located on soils of alluvial origin and composed of shale and granite. Monte Meao Vinha dos Novos is a red produced with Touriga Nacional. The grapes are foot pressed in granite lagares and then fermented in French oak barrels at a controlled temperature. The finished wine is then aged in used, 225-liter barriques. The wine shows a clear and brilliant color with ruby tones. On the nose, it reveals a fresh and complex aromatic profile. It has notes of red fruit and flowers, juniper berries, and some hints of chocolate. On the palate, it is elegant and harmonious. It has a good structure, silky tannins, and a well-balanced acidity. The finish is long and seductive. It is ready to drink now but can stay in the cellar for a decade. Enjoy it with mature cheeses or roast lamb.
