Drink it now or cellar for up to 25 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Established at the end of 1800 by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, after the purchase of approximately 300 hectares of land, Quinta do Vale Meão is today a very prestigious winery, managed by the Olazabal family, who acquired it in 1998. The company produces wines from grapes coming from its own vineyards. Here the most widespread variety is the Touriga Nacional, which gives its best on the unique soils of the Douro valley. The Douro Tinto is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Roriz, foot pressed in granite containers called lagares. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels. The wine has an intense and deep color with ruby tones. Its aromatic profile is broad and complex with notes of ripe dark fruit and herbaceous hints. On the palate, it is full and round with dense and well-integrated tannins and a fresh and balanced acidity. The finish is long and elegant and recalls light spicy notes. It is a characterful wine, which can remain in the cellar for a few years, but it is also perfect to drink now paired with red meat or game.
