Today, the family estate is in the hands of Charles Sparr, the twelfth generation, who, in 2013, joined forces with his wife, Amélie Buecher, also from a renowned family of winemakers, to create a unique estate that encompasses the vineyards of both families. Since 2017, the vineyards have been converted to organic cultivation. The Alsatian Riesling Grand Cru Legende is produced with Demeter-certified biodynamic grapes from a plot located 380 meters above sea level, with vines of about 35 years of age. Here the vines sink their roots into a predominantly calcareous soil and enjoy south-east exposure. The particular soil and climate conditions guarantee the production of an elegant, rich, and mineral wine. After harvesting and fermentation at a controlled temperature, the wine rests on the lees. In the glass, the wine reveals a clear and bright color with straw tones and golden reflections. On the nose, it opens with a broad bouquet of citrus notes, pineapple, and ripe yellow fruit, followed by mineral and aromatic herb hints. On the palate, it is fresh and succulent, with a strong mineral vein and a pleasant flavor. It is rich, juicy, and refreshing with a long and slightly spicy finish. It is the ideal wine for seafood and shellfish.
