Turmeric has been used for centuries for its natural beneficial actions including its antioxidant effects. Turmeric is a yellow-flowered perennial plant found in India and throughout Asia. The root of the plant is used both as a spice and as a nutritional supplement. The active ingredient is curcumin, which is obtained by scalding, drying and then grinding the root like stem of the plant to form a yellow powder. Turmeric features prominently in ayurvedic medicine (Indian traditional medicine). In the early 1970's researchers uncovered the science behind its efficacy - notable compounds called curcuminoids. Turmeric is an antioxidant with a similar potency to that of Vitamin C and E. Antioxidants help to neutralise the effects of free radicals. Each Healthspan turmeric tablet contains 500mg of standardised extract (20:1) equivalent to 10,000mg of root powder. Our formulation is a high strength root extract standardised to provide a minimum of 95% curcumin.
