Located close to the Podyjí National Park, in South Moravia, Czech Republic, Thaya owns approximately 105 hectares of vineyards in the immediate vicinity of the winery and in some villages including Hnanice, Šatov, Havraníky, Vrbovec, and Dyjákovičky. Viticulture has been practiced here since the times of the ancient Romans, thanks to the particular climatic conditions characterized by sunny days and cool nights. Soils are composed of calcareous clay and loess with granitic subsoil and are particularly favorable for the production of white wines. The Riesling grapes come from the Hnanice, Fládnická, and U Chlupa vineyards. After the harvest, fermentation takes place in 1000 liter barrels, to allow the wood to leave only a light trace and not alter the complete expression of the fruity character of the vine. Riesling Stare Vinice has a clear and brilliant color with golden yellow tones. On the nose, it reveals a complex aromatic profile characterized by notes of ginger and citrus peel with some iodine hints. On the palate, it is dry and refreshing, juicy, and with a marked acidity. The finish is long and persistent and recalls citrus notes. Excellent with oysters and seafood. It also goes well with vegetarian recipes and some lightly spiced Thai dishes.
