Mysterious and beautiful, the black panther is a big cat that's been born with black fur instead of its normal colourings, rather than being a species of its own. The most common species for this to happen to are the leopard and jaguar: so both black leopards and black jaguars count as black panthers. The darkness of their coats varies, so sometimes the fur is almost pitch black, but more often than not their markings are slightly darker than the rest of their fur and can still be seen. With keen night vision, sharp sense of smell and strong bodies, can be found in rain forests and higher altitude areas, and are efficient nocturnal hungers. They often take their prey up into the trees once killed, to eat in peace and prevent other animals from stealing their meal. Not suitable for children under 36 months.
