Gaja Ca'Marcanda Vistamare 2023

Drink now or cellar for up to 6 years. Serve chilled. Founded by Giovanni Gaja in 1859 to produce wine for his tavern, Gaja winery is still in the hands of the same family to this day. The winery is best known for the work of the legendary Angelo Gaja who helped put the region on the map for exceptional Barbaresco wines. His innovative approach continues today with Gaja’s impressive range of wines which frequently rank amongst Italy’s finest. This very limited production wine is the only white produced by the Ca’ Marcanda estate. The playful name is a reference to the “seaview” often used by hoteliers on the coast to trick guests, whereas the vineyards that are used for this wine actually do enjoy a stunning view of the Tuscan landscape. Vistamare is composed of Vermentino and Viognier along with a smaller amount of Fiano to add perfume and delicacy. Expect plenty of charming white floral notes like acacia and almond blossom on the nose along with hints of zingy lemon and orchard fruits. The Fiano adds complex notes of musk and menthol, while the first sip reveals a refreshing acidity from the Vermentino. A great wine to cellar for a few more years or to pair with summer salads, sushi, or creamy risottos.
