Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant before serving. This vivacious Tuscan Sangiovese is part of a new generation of wines crafted by the Fulgini family on their historic Montalcino estate. The property entered the family in 1923 and is currently in the capable hands of Maria Flora Fuligni and her nephew Roberto who partner with Sangiovese expert Paolo Vagaggini to create stunning wines from their 100 hectare estate in north-eastern Montalcino. Modelled on the Super Tuscans made by their neighbours which mix Sangiovese with international grapes, this cuvee is crafted predominantly from estate-grown Sangiovese along with a dash of Merlot from their Bandita vineyards. The young wine ages in French oak casks for 22 months to unify the blend and polish the flavour profile. The result is an agile and dynamic wine which leads with ripe red berry and cherry notes layered with spice, autumnal undergrowth, and hints of incense. The first sip reveals firm tannins that will soften with age, an intense core of fruit, and a strong backbone that bodes well for future maturation. It’s a great wine to pair with classic Italian cuisine like wild boar, tomato-based pasta dishes, or hard cheeses.
