Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving. The Fulgini family have been based in Tuscany since 1770 and in 1923 they founded their namesake estate on 100 hectares on the north-eastern side of Montalcino. Today the property is run by Maria Flora Fuligni and her nephew Roberto, with renowned Sangiovese expert Paolo Vagaggini in charge of overseeing the vineyards and winemaking. The family’s 14 hectares of vines sit at 380 to 450 metres above sea level, covering a variety of terrains and microclimates. This is their signature Rosso di Montalcino which is often nicknamed “baby Brunello”. Grapes are selected from across the estate with each plot vinified separately. After fermentation this vivacious wine is matured in artisanal Slavonian oak casks for 6-7 months prior to bottling. This is a classic style Tuscan Sangiovese that offers a taste of Brunello for a fraction of the price tag. In the glass you’ll immediately notice the dusty red of the Sangiovese and hints of red cherries, plums, and crushed berries. On the palate there are deeper hints of earth, leather and winter spice layered over firm tannins and a medium body.
