It was acquired in 1991 by Alain Combard, a prodigal son of the Cote d’Azur who left his Chablis winery to return home. These days, the winery is run by three of Alain’s sons and daughters - François, Magali and Delphine. The Confidentielle range aims to express the true nature of Saint-André de Figuière, the original 44-acre plot of land that Alain Combard purchased in 1991. It is a mineral-rich, schist-based plot within the Côtes de Provence La Londe AOP, bringing strong minerality and purity of character to its wines. The Confidentielle Rosé is a distinguished wine, with an appealing salmon pink colour. The nose is shy yet complex, offering scents of peach, citrus fruit, apricot and pepper. However, the thing that sets Confidentielle apart is its strong element of minerality. This blend of Cinsault, Mourvedre and Grenache exhibits a pleasant salinity on the tongue, along with playful fruity notes and hints of liquorice and pepper. It makes a round, mouth-coating impression overall, kept fresh by a backbone of lively acidity. It brings the potential for some fantastic gastronomic experiences. Consider serving it chilled, alongside a lobster dish, lightly-seasoned scallops, or a roast chicken.
