Cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. This supple red wine is crafted from 100% Listan Negro, a rarer Spanish grape that primarily grows in the Canary Islands. It was sourced from two separate parcels, both over 100 years old, growing on black volcanic soils. It expresses strong fruit notes on the nose, with wild red berries, white pepper, citrus zest, and hints of dried flowers. The idea for Envínate (translating to “wine yourself”) was formed in 2005, when the four winemakers met on an oenology course in Alicante. The project reaches from the tip to the toe of Spanish territory – it is split between the Canary Islands and Ribeira Sacra in the northwest of Spain. The people at Envínate make pure wines that reflect these wild Atlantic-tinged terroirs, through working solely by hand and leaving the vines untrained and untamed. In the mouth, Migan Tinto is voluminous and fruit-forward, bursting with notes of red cherry, dried mushrooms, cranberry, pepper, and spice. Its tannins are fine and silky, coupled with a fresh acidity. Before bottling, the wine spent 11 months ageing in French oak. A great choice for those seeking a new, rare Spanish varietal – consider pairing it with lamb tagine, chorizo sausage, or pungent cheese.
