Cellar for up to 20 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Members of the Humbrecht family have harvested grapes from the steep hills of Alsace for centuries. In 1959, their livelihood took a revolutionary turn, with the marriage of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind. Domaine Zind-Humbrecht began to bottle and sell wines under their name for the first time, and have since become one of the most revered names in Alsace. Nowadays the winery is under the leadership of Olivier Humbrecht, who is gradually guiding the winery into an era of organic farming. His family know the terroir of Alsace better than anybody, and the grapes that suit it best. They craft an incredible range of wines from Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and of course, the delicious Riesling grape. “Roche Calcaire” is sourced from several vineyards in the village of Gueberschwihr, which were planted by Léonard Humbrecht in the 1960s and 70s. The wine is pale gold, with a shy nose of tangerine, lemon peel and lime, slowly building into a full bouquet. Zesty lemon is a prominent flavour on the palate too. With its strong yet precise activity, this wine has a juiciness in the mouth that is supported by hints of flinty minerality. It will be fantastic paired with seafood, particularly sushi, or soft cheese such as Camembert.
