Drink it now or cellar for up to 30 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Founded in 1959, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is a prestigious Alsatian winery, created by the union of the estates of the two families Zind and Humbrecht. Today, the estate, which extends over 40 hectares of organically and biodynamically cultivated vineyards, is managed by Oliver and his son Pierre-Emile, the second and third generations of the Humbrecht family since the founding of the Domaine. The Riesling grapes come from the Clos Häuserer vineyard planted in 1973 by Leonard Humbrecht, in the municipality of Wintzenheim at the foot of the Grand Hengst. Its name comes from the rural road that runs alongside it and translates as 'the path that leads to the houses', probably an old reference to the presence of ancient Roman settlements. Here, the vines enjoy an eastern exposure and are rooted in deep Oligocene marl-limestone soils. After the harvest, fermentation takes place slowly in foudres, and the finished wine rests on the lees until bottling. In the glass, the wine reveals a bright and lively color with straw yellow tones. Its aromatic profile is delicate and fresh with citrus notes and mineral hints. On the palate, it is tense and characterful, dry and crisp. It has a marked, invigorating acidity and a clear mineral vein. It is thirst-quenching with a long finish that recalls salty touches. Try it with oysters or shrimp curry.
