Cellar for up to 15 years. Decanting is optional, up to 30 minutes before serving. Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard is a jewel nestled in the heart of Savigny-les-Beaune, a charming village in the Burgundy region. Jean-Jacques is still at the helm, creating a stellar range of Premier Cru wines with his son Victor. While they own plots of land across the appellations of Pommard, Volnay and Corton-Charlemagne, Savigny-les-Beaune is the land that they know best. This wine is sourced from “Les Lavières”, a sloping plot with vines planted as far back as 1943. The name refers to a type of flat limestone lying under the site’s thin soils. Widely considered one of the best Premier Cru’s in Savigny-les-Beaune, “Les Lavières” is a fantastic place to start exploring the intricacies of red Burgundy wine. Notable for its rich, summery character, the nose of “Les Lavières” is alive with notes of raspberry, strawberry and cassis. There is also an earthy, slightly masculine side to the wine as a whole, which is typical of this vineyard. The fruits were aged in oak for 11 months before bottling. On the palate, look for a medley of cherry, strawberry, blackberry and pomegranate. There are spice accents to be found, as well as a wonderful fresh acidity and hints of oakiness. Enjoy it alone, or alongside coq au vin, filet mignon, or a rich mushroom risotto.
