For the last 5 centuries, members of the Girard family have grown grapes in the picturesque landscape of Savigny-Les-Beaune. It wasn't until Jean-Jacques Girard founded his own estate seven generations later that we began to see some incredible wines sold under the Girard label. This Domaine has become an essential stop on any wine lover's journey through the world-famous appellations of Burgundy. Savigny-Les-Beaune is primarily a red wine appellation. Its vineyards lie between 250 and 400 metres above sea level, making for some pleasantly powerful Pinot Noir grapes. Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard's wines are no exception. Each bottle bursts with a distinct flavour and character that can only come from this highly esteemed village. Strong scents of raspberry and cherry greet the nose, with an undercurrent of jamminess, earth and spice. This wine was fermented in oak barrels for 15 months, imparting a delicate tannic structure. You can discover further red fruit notes on the palate, along with hints of oak, hawthorn and a smokey, meaty quality. The finish reveals black pepper and long, swirling notes of sweet spice. Due to its high acidity, this wine can be paired with a wide variety of meat dishes, from grilled pork to a fine beef steak.
