Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant. Located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Chablis wine region, the Domaine Besson has been a family estate for four generations. Founded in 1902, the company is now managed by Alain Besson and his two sons and covers over 21 hectares of vineyards from which wines of seven denominations are produced. The company philosophy favors minimal interventions in the vineyard and a sustainable and eco-friendly approach. The Chardonnay grapes come from a vineyard of approximately 5 hectares planted on clayey soils rich in limestone. The harvest is manual, and after gentle pressing of the grapes, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature. A small percentage of the grapes are fermented in barrels. The finished wine is then left to mature for 18 months, partly in steel and partly in chestnut barrels. Chablis Montmains 1er Cru has a pale yellow color with some slightly golden reflections and a broad and fragrant aromatic profile. The nose reveals notes of white flowers, citrus peel, and wet stone. On the palate, it is quite full and linear with a lively acidity and a strong, citrus character. The finish is refreshing and recalls mineral notes. It’s the ideal companion for shellfish.
