Enjoy it now, or cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. This is a herbaceous, fruit-laden wine, made from 100% Garnacha in the mountains to the west of Madrid. It opens with a rich bouquet of raspberry, strawberry, and plum, underscored by hints of orange peel, pepper, black tea, and dried herbs. The fruits were grown on granite-rich soils, on steep slopes in the Gredos region. Comando G is a young winery, founded in 2008 by two friends, Fernando and Daniel. They took the winery’s name from their favourite childhood cartoon and set out to redefine what Garnacha can be, utilising some of the oldest and most difficult to harvest vineyards in the region. Their vineyards, now spanning Madrid, Castilla La Mancha and Castilla Y Leon, are all harvested biodynamically, allowing the character of the land to shine through. Don’t be fooled by the village-level label – this is a top-class wine at an excellent price. On the palate, it is rich and smooth, with deep notes of dried herbs and black and red fruits. The oak is perfectly integrated, and a steely, mineral side comes through on the long finish. La Bruja de Rozas is a fantastic wine for pairing with roast chicken, pork, or a pungent cheese.
