It was founded in 1982 by Fred Cline, who started in Oakley, before moving further north to the rich grape-growing region of Sonoma County. Nowadays, Fred and his wife Nancy have passed the reigns to the second generation of Cline wine-makers. In the beginning the Cline family worked with bold varietals such as Mourvèdre, Carignan and Zinfandel. While Rhone varietals became their forté after moving north, they never forgot their origins. This Zinfandel was sourced from Fred Cline’s original vineyards in Oakley, where the roots of thirsty, 100-year-old vines reach deep into sandy soils, creating marvellously intense fruits. It is a classic, incredibly drinkable Californian Zinfandel. On the nose, you’ll find notes of red berries - raspberry and strawberry mingle with cherry, sweet spices and vanilla. Due to its low acidity, it is a delightfully smooth wine on the palate. Notes of plum and dark cherry dominate, but you’ll also discover earthy undertones of leather, cedar, and a slight peppery element. This is an easy-drinking wine, and will also make for an easy pairing with various food. Enjoy it with some barbecue ribs, pulled pork, or smokey cheese.
