Cellar for 5 years. No need to decant it. Bodegas Forjas del Salnas is a partnership between Rodrigo Mendez and winemaker Raul Perez. The project, named after the homonymous mussel raft company founded by Rodrigo’s grandfather, started in 2005 in the Val do Salnes area in Rías Baixas with the mission of preserving heritage varieties that over the centuries had been pulled out in Galicia. Currently, the winery manages around 7.5 hectares of vineyards located in different parts of the municipality of Meaño, Sanxenxo, and Barro, producing some of the most exciting wines in Rías Baixas. Leirana Genoveva is a white wine made from 100% organically grown Albarino grapes from 80-year-old vines from a small vineyard by the sea. It ferments in large barrels of 750 liters, and is then aged in oak foudres for 12 months for subsequent bottling. On the nose, the wine shows intense aromas of ripe apricot and peach, mandarin, white flowers, and aromatic plants. In the mouth it is fruity, intense, and delicious. It has good acidity and a mineral backbone. But what is striking about this wine is its depth and concentration, absolutely exceptional for an Albarino. It is a delicious pairing with seafood, crab, lobster, and oriental rice. Serve at 6º to 8ºC.
