Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant. Known by the nickname Mr Veltliner, Bernhard Ott has been at the helm of the family winery for around 30 years. The estate extends over 40 hectares of vineyards grown biodynamically for the last 20 years, and located in the Austrian region of Wagram. Here the vineyards can enjoy loess soils rich in minerals and very deep which guarantee the production of high quality grapes. The company concentrates its production on Gruner Veltliner, Austria's flagship grape variety. The grapes are selected from the 1er Cru Spiegel, Stein and Rosenberg vineyards. Here, the vines benefit from calcareous soils, loess and red gravel. Fermentation takes place in large Stockinger oak barrels. The Gruner Veltliner Der Ott is an impetuous wine and somehow representative of the personality of Bernhard Ott. On the nose it reveals a broad aromatic profile with aromas of apple, stone fruit and exotic and citrus notes. It is fresh, lively and well balanced. It has a good structure and a marked acidity. The finish is long and refreshing and recalls tropical notes. It makes an excellent aperitif but it also goes deliciously with oriental cuisine (especially Thai), seafood, and many vegetarian recipes.
