Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Located near the historic Sonoma Plaza in the heart of Sonoma County, WALT winery produces high-quality Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays with grapes from vineyards spread across Sta. Rita Hills, Sonoma County, Anderson Valley, and Willamette Valley. The works in the vineyard and the cellar are managed by Steve Leveque and Megan Gunderson with a non-interventionist philosophy, aimed at allowing the maximum expression of the grapes and the terroir of origin. The Pinot Noir grapes come from Rita's Crown vineyard, located at the top of a hill on clayey and sandy limestone soils. Here the soil and climatic conditions favor the production of intensely perfumed wines with a marked mineral vein. The Walt Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a rich and elegant wine, characterized by a vibrant and bright ruby color. On the nose, the wine reveals a captivating bouquet with aromas of red fruits such as pomegranate, raspberries, and cherries followed by violets, earthy and licorice notes. On the palate, it is fleshy and powerful, while maintaining an elegant grace and good balance. It is lively and fresh and has a long, slightly spicy finish. It’s perfect with quail, duck, and goose.
