With upwards of 1,200 years of action-packed history to draw upon, there’s not a pavement stone in Dublin that doesn’t have a tale to tell. On this tour, I’ll escort you through a small chunk of the Irish capital, bringing you from St Stephen’s Green via Merrion Square to Trinity College Dublin. Along the way, I’ll fill you in on characters such as Bernardo O’Higgins, Maurice Fitzgerald, Wolfe Tone and Paddy Hitler. We’ll learn about Vikings who became Normans, Frenchmen who fought for Ireland, and Irishmen who fought for Mexico. You’ll find out why the Duke of Wellington is the perfect role model for children who feel useless, and we’ll pay our respects to Leopold Bloom’s lemon cake too, along with Oscar Wilde’s granite trousers and a duchess who gave birth to twenty-two children. Towards the end of the tour, we’ll get up close and personal with the monks who created the Book of Kells, hear about the curse that wiped out the Irish elk and meet the bishop who dated the creation of the world to 4004BC. It would be my absolute pleasure to be your guide on a tour stuffed with stories designed to both enlighten and entertain. Please note: At the time of publishing this tour, Trinity College is closed to the public until September 28th to prevent the spread of coronavirus. It might reopen sooner, or later, and it might close again after reopening. Because of this, the tour price has been lowered to an introductory price of $2.99 while the college is closed. If it happens to be closed when you take this tour, I recommend retiring to one of the many fine pubs nearby, to listen to the rest of the tour in comfort.
