Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Located in the southern part of the Naoussa region of Macedonia, the Thymiopoulos estate has a long family tradition and is now managed by Apostolos who has introduced the application of biodynamic principles and a more natural and less interventionist approach to winemaking. Made entirely from Xinomavro grapes, Thymiopoulos Vrana Petra is a Greek red with a bold, characterful edge and excellent aging potential. The grapes come from a vineyard around 24 years old, located in Trilofo at around 200 meters above sea level. Here, the vines enjoy an amphitheater-like exposure and cool breezes from the Vermio mountains and are rooted in clayey soils, rich in quartz and schist. After manual harvesting, and a long maceration, vinification takes place with indigenous yeasts and the finished wine rests in second-passage oak barrels for 1 year. In the glass, the wine reveals a deep ruby color and a broad, powerful aromatic profile with notes of red fruits such as raspberry, strawberry, and cherry, followed by hints of Mediterranean herbs and spices. On the palate, it is concentrated and full-bodied, balanced and characterful, with well-integrated tannins and a lively refreshing acidity. It has a full body and a long, juicy finish. It is a wine that can age well but can also be enjoyed now with herb-roasted lamb or wild boar pappardelle.
