Drink now or cellar for up to 12 years. No need to decant before serving. Tenuta San Guido is the estate where the Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta created the famous Sassicaia Super Tuscan wine in the 1960s. The exceptional terroir here close to Tuscany’s Tyrrhenian coast and the use of French grape varieties has put the property on the map for some of Italy’s most impressive fine wines. More recently, in 2000, Mario’s son Nicolò debuted his own iconic wine, Guidalberto, which is named after his great great great grandfather who was a pioneer of modern agriculture in 19th century Bolgheri. This elegant Bordeaux-style cuvee is primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon along with a smaller quantity of Merlot. All of the fruit is carefully sorted to maximize quality with the varieties fermented separately and aged in French oak barrels for 15 months before blending. Guidalberto is a classic second wine from this legendary Italian estate with a complex flavour profile and excellent aging potential. Expect a rich spicy nose with hints of leather, dark berries and earth and a solid core of blackberries, plums and dark cherries on the palate culminating in a long and elegant finish. A great wine to cellar for a few more years or enjoy now with red meat dishes and mature hard cheeses.
