Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. This Kindzmarauli is a vibrant scarlet colour in the glass, with a scented nose of Maraschino cherry, cassis, dried fig and raisins. Situated on the left bank of the Alazani River in Kakheti, Kindzmarauli is arguably the most famous appellation in all of Georgia, known for bold, semi-sweet red wines, such as this one. For an authentic taste of Georgian wine, it is difficult to look past a Kindzmarauli made by Tbilvino. Tbilvino has long been one of Georgia’s most vital wine producers, making an incredible range that consists of 29 different types of wine, from some of the country’s legendary appellations. These days it is under the ownership of brothers Zurab and Giorgi Margvelashvili, who oversaw Tbilvino’s modernisation and began to cultivate estate-owned vineyards for the first time in the winery’s history. Kindzmarauli coats the tongue in sweet red fruits, with hints of pomegranate, chocolate and spice. It is a velvety, easy-drinking experience, ideal for winter nights in front of a fire. The Saperavi grapes were harvested late in the season, allowing for higher amounts of residual sugar. However, the bold character of the Saperavi grape imparts a wonderful structure to the wine and an overall balanced character. Consider pairing Kindzmarauli with chocolate cake, strawberries, or tangy barbecued meats.
