Cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant before serving. This great value red is made by famed winemaking consultant Jean-Claude Berrouet who used to make wine at the legendary Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux and Dominus in Napa Valley. Tapiz is one of Argentina’s most high-tech and innovative wineries with its own research and development team who partner with local bodies like the University of Cuyo to conduct cutting-edge studies into the terroir and winemaking techniques. Tapiz’s Alta Collection wines are all made from top quality grapes from Finca San Pablo in Mendoza’s Uco Valley. The vineyards here sit at 1400 metres above sea level in the foothills of the dramatic Andes Mountains. This stunning setting benefits from cooling mountain breezes and a large temperature difference between the day and night which helps to preserve freshness and aromatic complexity in the grapes. On the nose there are enticing hints of ripe plums, jammy blackcurrants and cherries while the first sip reveals a well-rounded full body, smooth tannins and long spicy finish with notes of cinnamon and clove from the oak ageing. This plush Malbec has great balance and plenty of freshness, making it a great match for tomato-based pasta dishes and pizzas.
