Kindzmarauli is arguably the most famous wine of Georgia, made exclusively in the Kvareli sub-region of Kakheti. This one is part of Shumi Winery’s premium range, bursting with scents of jammy plum, blackcurrant and black cherry. Shumi Winery was founded in 2001, in the village of Tsinandali, in the heart of Kakheti. It draws fruits from 300 hectares of vineyards in all, from special microclimates all across the country. The word “Shumi” is an old Georgian term, essentially referring to the best, most authentic wine that you can find. If that’s what you are searching for, Shumi’s Kindzmarauli is an excellent place to start - it offers an inimitable taste of Georgia. The palate is richly textured and deep, reflecting the wine’s vivid purple colour. You can discover sweet notes of fig, dried cherry and crème de cassis, leading into a pleasantly bitter finish. As the Kindzmarauli appellation demands, the grapes were harvested late in the season and spent at least two years ageing before release. It is an excellent wine for pairing with desserts, such as chocolate cake, or an aged cheese.
