Schleich Hippopotamus

Hippopotamuses (or hippopotami) are herbivorous, and appear to look calm and friendly on the surface; in reality they are one of the most dangerous creatures in Africa, and considered one of the most aggressive animals in the world. They may be big and heavy, but they could easily outrun a human, running at speeds of up to 50k/ 30 miles per hour on land.A single hippo is able to eat over 70kg in food within only five hours, mostly grazing on grass but occasionally eating other plants too. Grazing at night, hippos spend most of their time in the water during the day to cool off. Hippos sleep, fight and mate in the water, but adults can't actually swim very well, and don't float: so they tend to stick to shallower waters.Hippos are one of the largest, heaviest land mammals on Earth, reaching up to two tons in weight and growing up to five metres in length. They can also live up for forty years, and live in heards of about thirty hippos. The males fight fiercely for terriroty in the water, and emerge from the water one by one to feed, rather than in a group. Not suitable for children under 36 months.
