Ducks love to spend their time in the water. These birds grease their plumage regularly, keeping it water-repellent. An isolating coat of down provides for sufficient warmth. Because they are omnivores they can find food throughout the year.Ducks prefer to be in the water rather than ashore and often look for food in larger groups to protect each other from birds of prey. Their plumage keeps their temperature comfortably regulated, and ducks make sure that their feathers are well-greased and thus water-repellent. There is an isolating coat of down feathers underneath. This is how these omnivores find food in any season. In order to make food intake easier, many ducks have specialised beaks with strains or filters, so-called pectens. Ducks nest close to the bank and like to hide in the bushes.
