Cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. This Chardonnay begins with a luxurious bouquet of ripe pear, lemon zest, cream and toasted bread. It is a product of the Russian River Valley, and the esteemed Rochioli vineyard, where the vines grow on a nutritious sandy loam. It is tended by the Rochioli family, who have grown grapes here since the 1950s. Ramey Wine Cellars, where the grapes are turned into this delicious white wine, is also a family business. It was founded in 1996 by David and Carla Ramey, who played a vitally important role in turning California into an internationally renowned region. Their Chardonnay’s are perfect examples of the Californian style: full-bodied, round, and packed with pure fruit flavours. The Rochioli Vineyard Chardonnay is a deep, textural wine, with bright acidity and a juicy mouthfeel. Look for notes of Bosc pear, lemon, green apple and hazelnut, all outlined by a backbone of subtle oak. The wine spent 20 months ageing in French oak barrels, before being bottled without filtration. This wine strikes a perfect balance between pure fruit and buttery, oaky influence from the fermentation process. It is perfect for pairing with roast chicken, halibut, or sharp, creamy cheeses such as Gorgonzola.
