Freiburg‘s unique and time-worn Old Town was thankfully restored after the terrible damages it took in the Second World War. However, some of the buildings you'll see today are the original, including its impressive cathedral and Germany‘s oldest restaurant, which has been around for over 900 years. On this walking tour, I‘ll introduce you to this charming and picturesque town, filled with ancient alleyways and architectural treasures. Our walk through the Old Town starts at Rathausplatz, a square housing two of Freiburg‘s Town Halls. You‘ll pass Freiburg Cathedral (or Münster) which miraculously survived the war. From there, you‘ll stroll from one medieval tower, Martinstor (Martin‘s Gate), to the other town tower, Schwabentor. Along the way, I‘ll show you a part of town known as Little Venice, its many canals lined with cafes which give it a distinctive Mediterranean flair. You‘ll stroll through the beautiful restored and enchanting street, Konviktstrasse, before ending your walk at the Oberlindenbrunnen, a fountain next to a 300-year-old lime tree.
