Built in 1924, New York Marriott East Side Hotel was originally known as the Shelton Towers. Artist Georgia O’Keeffe used it as a subject for a painting, Houdini performed a daring escape from a locked box in the pool, and a certain James Stare set the world record for continuous dancing on its roof. Marriott restored the hotel in 2002, retaining original woodwork and the geometrically patterned marble floor, and adding a gleaming entrance and glass canopy. The hotel attracts business travelers and Midtown shoppers and sightseers to its \''old Manhattan\'' style and prime location. Accommodation at the Marriott East Side is spacious and includes all the facilities normally expected of a 4 star hotel, amongst others. The Marriott occupies an ornate brick-and-stone building festooned with gargoyles and graceful arches.
