Montgras Intriga Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. The story of this winery started back in '93 when three friends, Hernán, Eduardo Gras, and Cristián Hartwig, decided to make some wine. Today, Montgras is one of the largest wine groups in Chile, with vineyards sprawling across Colchagua, Maipo, and up to the Andes in Leyda. Intriga is mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with small additions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are hand-picked from the Alto Maipo vineyards right by the Andes mountains. After a short maceration phase and fermentation with selected yeasts, it undergoes another maceration phase for 10 to 15 days more, letting the flavors mingle. Then, it rests in a mix of new oak barrels and big ol' 2,000-liter foudre for a full 24 months. In the glass, the wine reveals a rich color that's deep and dark with hints of ruby peeking through. It smells of dark fruit, especially plums, black currants, and a bunch of other little red berries, followed by some spices and a whiff of coffee. Take a sip, and you’ll discover a wine that has some serious depth to it. It’s warm and full-bodied. The tannins are firm and friendly, giving you a nice little chew. And it's long and lingering, leaving you with a little spicy whisper at the end. For a match made in heaven, try it with a hearty beef stew.
