Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Located in the heart of Apalta, Colchagua Valley, Montes is one of Chile's most renowned and important wineries, thanks to the quality of its wines and the passion put into their production since the beginning. Founded in the late 1980s by Aurelio Montes, the company today also produces wines in Napa Valley, and Mendoza, Argentina. Montes Wings is the newest and most accessible of the company’s Carmeneres, made with small additions of Cabernet Franc. The grapes for both varieties come from the Apalta vineyard at the top of the hill. After vinification, the finished wine rests for 16 months in French oak barrels (80% new). The wine is a juicy red with an intense and fruity aromatic profile with notes of blueberries and blackberries followed by aromas of chili and black pepper, olives, sweet tobacco, and chocolate. On the palate, it has good intensity and a medium body. It is well-balanced and easy to approach. The tannins are soft and well integrated and the wine reveals a velvety texture. The finish is long and slightly spicy. Excellent with pork tenderloin, rabbit with olives, or lamb tagine.
