Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant but best to open it half an hour before service. Markowitsch is a family-run winery with a long tradition that dates back two centuries. Today the estate, which extends over approximately 65 hectares, is managed by Gerhard and his daughter. They produce renowned high-quality wines from local and international grape varieties. The grapes for the Pinot Noir Reserve come from Ried Scheibner located between the Aubühel and Bärnreiser vineyards in Höflein at 220 meters above sea level. Here the vines benefit from eastern exposure and a conical shape that creates protection from the winds. They are rooted in calcareous soil with sand and gravel on the surface and loess in some places. After manual harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats, the finished wine rests for 16 months in barrels of various sizes. On the nose, the wine reveals an intense and broad aromatic profile with notes of red fruits, rose hips, spices, and licorice. On the palate, it is concentrated, elegant and balanced. It has a medium body and fine, velvety tannins. It is fresh and smooth, with a long finish that recalls notes of licorice. Serve it slightly chilled with a porcini risotto or with guinea fowl with herbs.
