The nearby seaside town of Nerja is at the eastern end of the Costa del Sol. Although a popular resort, it has retained its Moorish appearance, with picturesque streets of whitewashed houses. At the centre of Nerja's seafront is the famous Balcon de Europa - a clifftop plaza that occupies the site of a former Moorish castle.
