Lagvinari Krakhuna 2022

Drink now or cellar for up to 8 years. Serve chilled. The country of Georgia is known for its impressive winemaking heritage which is thought to date back some 8,000 years. Many experts believe that the country’s traditional winemaking practices are similar to those used in ancient times, including the qvevri or large clay pots which are set into the ground and used as fermentation vessels. Founded by the former doctor and geologist Eko Glonti, Lagvinari winery specialises in producing natural wines made using sustainable methods wherever possible. Eko made his very first vintage in 2011 at the age of 49 in collaboration with the famous natural wine journalist Isabelle Legeron. Krakhuna is one of Georgia’s classic white wine varieties that is little-known outside of the country. This cuvee is created by fermenting the juice with the skins for 1 month and then ageing the young wine for 8 months in qvevri. The result is a punchy orange wine that has a bold amber hue and enticing notes of apple, pear, and honeyed notes. On the palate there are firm tannins, a medium body, and a long finish seasoned with hints of dried herbs, spice, and tobacco leaf.
