La Spinetta Casanova Chianti Riserva 2020

Drink now or cellar for up to 15 years. Decant before drinking. La Spinetta, founded by the Rivetti family, has been making wine in Italy since the 1960’s. Originally farming and winemaking in the Piedmont region, La Spinetti expanded into Tuscany acquiring two Cru Sangiovese vineyards nestled between Pisa and Volterra in 2001. The La Spinetta philosophy is to prioritize the vineyard where they farm organically and respectfully of the vines and the land. Today, Giorgio Rivetti is head winemaker and has been called, “One of Italy’s most fashionable winemakers/proprietors,” by Robert Parker. Under his leadership, La Spinetta has won the coveted Tre Bicchieri award for more than 40 of their wines. The Casanova Chianti Reserva comes from 30-year-old vines that sit on sandy soil compiled of rich marine sediment. The Casanova Chianti Riserva is known for its racing, yet balanced acidity, grippy mouth tannins and bouquets of fresh red fruits. Aged for 24 months in french oak barrels and another six in bottle, this wine shows smooth distinction on the palate with hints of aged leather coupled with tart raspberry and vanilla. It shows classic Chianti character that Chianti drinkers often grow to know, love, and look. This is an ideal food pairing wine going nicely with red meat, poultry dishes and a variety of cheese and charcuterie.
