Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant. The Roger family has been growing Sancerre & Pouilly Fumé since the 17th century. However, Jean-Max Roger was only able to take over 4ha from his father back in the '70s. Today the winery owns over 34 hectares of vineyards in Sancerre, Menetou-Salon, and Pouilly Fumé and the sons Etienne and Thibault support their father in the vineyard and the cellar. They produce excellent wines that are an elegant expression of their terroirs. The Sancerre Cuvée Caillottes-Marne comes partly from a vineyard with small stones and partly from another vineyard with a lot of calcium. This diversity of terroirs gives it great complexity and elegance and a well-balanced structure. The elegance and fruity character of the wines from the “caillottes” soils are complemented by the power and length of the wines from the marls. On the nose, this Sancerre reveals a distinct personality and a good complexity of aromas with citrus notes and a marked minerality. In the mouth, the wine is lively with a good concentration of citrus flavors and a refreshing acidity. The body is well-balanced and the finish is refreshing and persistent. This is a Sancerre that shows great aging potential. Try it now with vegetarian pasta or risotto recipes or with goat cheese, or leave it in the cellar for a few years.
