With this 10 stop Hoya ND1000 Kit you have the ability to create stunning images either with the smoothing effect of a long shutter speed with water, or to make moving subjects such as cars on a motorway or pedestrians in a city street appear to disappear as the shutter speed used with the filter are 10 stops longer than without (10 times less light is let into the camera). You can also use it as a tool to use a wider aperture to create less depth of field (blur out the background when shooting a subject in the foreground) as less light entering the lens could be compensated with a wider aperture to let more light in.In order to get motion blur using this Hoya ND1000 filter kit you will need to use a slow shutter speed on your camera and a good quality tripod. This ND1000 filter will reduce the amount of light entering your lens by 10 stops. For instance on a typical day without the filter attached you may get an exposure reading of 125th second at f8. Using this filter you will need an exposure setting of 8 seconds at f8 to get the same exposure. This long shutter speed, together with a tripod will give you the capability to show amazing motion blur in water and clouds as well as giving the appearance that fast moving objects are not there such as traffic on a motorway or people walking down a street. The chart below shows the original shutter speed and a shutter speed 10 stops lower beside it.
