Cellar for up to 20 years. Decant for up to 2 hours before serving. One of the unsung stars of Piedmont, Ravera is a stunning expression of the Nebbiolo grape. It exhibits a deep brickish colour, with a blooming bouquet of dark cherry, violet, rose petals, bitumen, and dried medicinal herbs. It was sourced from the prestigious Ravera vineyard in Barolo, considered to be the most important vineyard in Comune di Novello. Since its foundation in 1972, G.D. Vajra has been dedicated to producing wines that reflect the true, multi-faceted character of their terroir. The family have been in the region for over two centuries, and have been vineyard owners since the 1920s. The winery is named after Giuseppe Domenico, the father of Aldo, who is the incumbent winemaker. In the mouth, this wine is full-bodied and robustly structured, with intense, dark flavours of cherry, plum, orange peel, and earthy dried herbs. Ravera was aged for 28 months in Slavonian oak casks, granting an extra oaky layer to this already tannic wine. The taut and grippy tannins, alongside vibrant acidity, provide considerable power and a long and satisfying finish. Consider pairing it with rich red meats, pungent cheese, or truffles.
