Franz Haas Pinot Nero 2022

Cellar for up to 6 years. Decant for 1 hour Vivid ruby red in colour, this classic Pinot Noir gives aromas of ripe cherries, soft dark fruit and hints of leather and peppery spices. On the palate, the fruit comes through with ripe blackcurrant, cherry and spice mixed perfectly with hints of leather and earthiness. Tannins are soft but well integrated and the acidity is good, combining well with the relatively high alcohol. The resulting wine is very well structured and provides a long finish with a hint of chocolate at the end. Great match with sausages, beef, lamb, chicken, pasta and cheese. The grapes were vinified in stainless steel vats with a long maceration period. The wine was then placed in oak barriques and a secondary, malolactic fermentation took place. It then matured in the barriques for up to 15 months prior to being bottled, where it was aged for a further 12 months prior to release. The Haas vineyards are located in Bolzano in the Alto Adige area of Italy. They are located in a valley which traps the heat and makes Bolzano one of the hottest cities in Italy. Together with great vineyards, the Hass family boasts generations of winemaking experience, although it is only more recently that the focus has turned to producing quality rather than quantity. Franz Haas, the current owner and winemaker, goes to extreme lengths to ensure that the best fruit is grown and the varietal characteristics and flavours are maintained throughout the process. The resulting wines are top quality with a purity of flavour and balance associated with top quality wines.
