Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. No need to decant. FJ Gritsch is an Austrian winery, located in Wachau and more precisely in Spitz, which produces high-quality, award-winning wines from vineyards located on dramatic terraces. This historic winery is today managed by Franz-Josef, the seventh generation of the Gritsch family who has owned the company for around 200 years. The historic headquarters of Mauritiushof has recently been integrated with the ultra-modern Kalmuck cellar. The Riesling grapes come from a vineyard on steep terraces located within the historic fortifications of the Dürnstein Burg, at an altitude between 207 and 293 meters. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks and the finished wine matures on the yeasts in large wooden barrels. The wine has an exuberant and rich aromatic profile with fresh notes of blood oranges and melon, peach, and apricot. On the palate, it is complex and elegant with a solid structure, a good fruity concentration, and a marked mineral vein. The acidity is intense and well-integrated. The finish is long and refreshing. It is the ideal wine for fish, but it also goes well with poultry especially if served with lemon sauces. Serve it now well chilled or leave it in the cellar for a while to experience how wonderfully a quality Riesling can evolve over time.
