Edmond de Rothschild Chateau des Laurets 2017

Cellar for 15 years or more. Decant for 2 hours before serving. This Bordeaux blend opens up with aromas of ripe raspberry, sour cherry and blackcurrant, supported by hints of spice, smoke and charcoal. It is complex, deeply savoury, and classic Bordeaux, crafted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, sourced from limestone and clay soils in the Right-Bank appellation of Puisseguin Saint-Émilion. The vineyard at Chateau des Laurets dates back to the 12th century and lies on the border between Puisseguin and Montagne Saint-Émilion. The chateau itself was built in 1860 and is part of the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage, a collection of prime wine-growing land that spans the globe. Few names in the wine world hold as much weight as de Rothschild, who was almost single-handedly responsible for creating the Israeli wine industry. The Chateau des Laurets blend is a weighty yet approachable wine, with an elegant structure and a silky character. Notes of liquorice, herbs and spice intermingle with rich fruit flavours of Morello cherry, blackberry and blueberry. It is accessible now, but can also be kept in the cellar for some time. Perfect for those who enjoy the velvety character of Right-Bank Bordeaux. Enjoy it alongside beef bourguignon, charcuterie boards, or roasted chicken.
