Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant. In the ancient plain of Oia, located in the north-western part of Santorini, the Domaine Sigalas produces fine wines repeatedly awarded in international competitions both in Greece and abroad, from the local varieties Assyrtiko, Aidani, Athiri, Mandilarià , and Mavrotragano. The exploitation and understanding of the potential of these native vines is the company's mission. In particular, the owner, Paris Sigalas, has managed to save the Mavrotragano vine from extinction. The island of Santorini has a unique terroir made of volcanic soil and a particular climate, with long hours of sunshine for most of the year, strong temperature variations and winds. This intense red wine is produced with 100% native Mavrotragano grapes from selected vineyards of the island of Santorini, from a blend of young vines and some old vines over 60 years old. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. The Sigalas Mavrotragano has a deep red color with violet highlights. On the nose, there are notes of ripe red fruits, jam, figs, and sweet spices. On the palate, it has a rich body, with balanced tannins and acidity. Have it with grilled meat, rich vegetarian dishes of the Mediterranean cuisine, and soft cheeses.
