This complex red is Domaine Courbis’ signature single vineyard wine, made of 100% Syrah from the ‘Les Royes’ vineyard in the Rhône Valley. Typical to the plot, this wine is bursting with scents of blackberry, blackcurrant, tobacco smoke, chocolate, and liquorice. With some time breathing, you can also discover floral violet hints. Domaine Courbis was founded in the 16th century, and has been passed from father to son until it reached the hands of Laurent and Dominique, the two brothers who currently own and operate the business. The modern cellar was built approximately 20 years ago, in a prime location where the Isère river meets the Rhône. It is soft and drinkable in the mouth, with finely grained tannins and suitably bright acidity. The fruits were harvested from the amphitheatre-shaped ‘Les Royes’ vineyard, one of the oldest locations in the region of Saint-Joseph. You can discover flavours of ripe dark fruits, leather, cocoa, smoke, and classic Syrah notes of violet and eucalyptus. There is plenty of room for this wine to evolve over the years. A flagship wine from one of the region's finest wineries. Consider pairing it with poultry, red meat stews, or a hard cheese.
