Comte Armand Pommard Premier Cru Clos des Epeneaux Monopole 2017

Cellar for up to 25 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Clos des Epeneaux is a historic vineyard, in the heart of the Pommard region of Burgundy. It is famous for a few reasons: firstly, its size, spanning 5.23 hectares of the Cote de Beaune. Secondly, it contains some of the oldest vines in the region, many of which are over 100 years old. Finally, to get a taste of Clos des Epeneaux, you will have to go with Domaine du Comte Armand, an esteemed winery that has a monopoly on the entire vineyard. Since 2014, the incumbent winemaker at Comte Armand has been Paul Zinetti, a man who knows how to make the most out of these 5 hectares. Clos des Epeneaux begins with a stunning bouquet of raspberry, pomegranate, orange peel, and subtle dried mushrooms. In the mouth, this Pinot Noir can redefine everything you know about Pommard. It brings a certain elegance to balance out the power that is commonly associated with the region, with silky tannins and a taut vein of acidity. Look for flavours of cranberry, sharp hedgerow fruits, and cigar box, along with hints of forest floor and edgy minerality. Consider pairing Clos des Epeneaux with roast poultry, beef bourguignon, or roast vegetables.
