Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. Clos Pegase is an impressive wine estate in the Napa Valley APA, with panoramic views of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. The main building of the winery is a piece of innovative architecture, designed by Michael Graves in 1987 and is one of California’s premier wine destinations. Clos Pegase creates wines from purely estate-owned vineyards, allowing for greater control and an extremely high level of quality in the final product. The estate’s largest grape-growing site is Mitsuko’s Vineyard, 365 acres in all, making up the majority of vineyard land in the Los Carneros appellation. Mitsuko’s Vineyard is the origin of this potent, deep purple Merlot. The fruits were grown in a section of the vineyard with Haire clay-loam soil, uncannily similar to the soil on the right bank of Bordeaux. The resulting wine is a deep well of dark fruit aromas, including plum, cassis and blackberry. It is juicy on the palate, full-bodied and alive with fresh acidity. Giving it some time to breathe, it rewards you with further herbal notes, bay leaf, cedar and clove. The tannins are smooth and propel the satisfying finish. This Merlot will complement roasted vegetables with herbs, roast beef, or a strong, creamy cheese.
