Chocolate and Churches: A Food and History Tour of Downtown Victoria

Victoria’s rich chocolate heritage and historic charm comes to life on this decadent and informative walking tour. Perfect for chocolate lovers and history enthusiasts alike, this walking tour takes you to some of the city’s most historic landmarks and churches. There are plenty of opportunities to treat yourself to delicious chocolate from some of my local favourites, beyond the tourist destinations. The tour starts at the Steamship Terminal Building along the inner harbor and winds its way through the downtown core, where you’ll find bustling local streets like Government Street. I’ll show you magnificent ecclesiastical buildings like Christ Church Cathedral, one of Canada’s largest churches, which offers a fascinating look into the city’s spiritual history. You’ll have a chance to visit the castle of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, built with money from Vancouver Island’s most famous coal baron. The tour ends at Chocolat & Co, an innovative co-op where three industry-leading chocolatiers share a working space. This tour’s highlights include: • Marvelling at the size of Christ Church Cathedral and discovering its connection to Winston Churchill • Sampling the cold brew coffee-containing Shaft cocktail at Bard & Banker, originally popular among late-night service staff, now a sophisticated classic • Delighting in chocolate, bourbon, and pecan tart at Crust Bakery, the city’s favorite • Admiring the priceless collection of indigenous art inside St. Andrew’s Catholic, with its Gothic Revival style architecture • Visiting Victoria’s oldest chocolate shop, Rogers’ Chocolates • Enjoying the unusual treat offered by Chocolats Favoris, chocolate fondue in a can This 75-minute walking tour offers the perfect blend of sweet treats, history, and culture, showcasing the best of Victoria’s history and local hangouts. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or rediscovering your city, this Victoria walking tour promises an unforgettable experience. Please note that foodie samples are not included in the price of the tour, however, at some locations, you will get discounts! See Tips below.
