Chateau Saint-Pierre Saint Julien 2013

Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Founded in the 17th century, Chateau Saint Pierre is a 4th Cru Classé which has had a troubled history over the centuries. In 1982 Henri Martin acquired and reconstituted it, and then left it in the hands of her daughter Francoise and her husband Jean-Louis Triaud. Today the estate, which extends over 17 hectares of vineyards planted on an exceptional gravelly terroir on clay-sandy subsoil, is managed by Jean, the third generation of the family at the head of the company. Chateau Saint-Pierre Saint Julien, of which approximately 70,000 bottles are made, is a classic Bordeaux blend with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, with additions of Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The finished wine is aged in oak barrels for approximately 12 months. The wine has an intense and deep color with ruby tones and some garnet nuances. On the nose, it reveals a complex aromatic profile with notes of red fruits, toasted bread, and hints of coffee, tobacco, liqueur, and some balsamic hints. On the palate, it is full and round, rich and consistent with good acidity and well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and elegant. It goes well with game birds, chicken in mushroom sauce, or stuffed guinea fowl.
